With the growing energy demand in the world, the proportion of wind power in the clean energy has been increased. However, there are many difficult in the wind power project, especially in the complex terrain wind farm. Wind source annlyzing and wind farm siting in the complex terrain are the key problems.The article selected a example of wind farm in the complex terrain, based on the domestic design standard of the wind power project, to investigate how to analyze the wind source and site the wind farm in different design steps. In the planning step, the main research include the wind climate in the planning area, the probable wind farm location, the estimating of installed gross capacity, construction schedule and anemometer siting. In the feasibility design step, the main research include the wind source analyzing in wind farm, wind farm layout optimizing, wind turbine generator choosing. In the micrositing of wind farm design step, the main research include wind source analyzing accurately, each wind turbine generator safety estimating, wind farm gross net annual production estimating.WASP and Wind software have been prevailing in wind farm design in long period allover the world, but they could not accurately simulate and calculate the wind farm in the complex terrain through much project experience and research. The sofeware with CFD technique are good at designing of the wind farm in complex terrain.The article introduces Meteodyn WT and WindSim software on the complex terrain wind farm. In different design steps, the calculating and simulating result such as wind source annlyzing and net production estimating are generated by Meteodyn WT software.
