Glulam, as a kind of ecological building material, widely used in developed countries due to its material, structure characteristics and aesthetic value. At present, compared with the developed countries, there is a certain gap of glulam application in our country, regardless of the cognition, choice and machining of the material, or the technical notes, design methods and technical regulation of glulam building.The article starting from the Chinese traditional wood structure ecclesiastical buildings, researching the glulam application in contemporary ecclesiastical building, digging its application value in contemporary architecture. I hope the article will cause more interest and attention from professional, as well as more extensive, deeply discussion and research, to make contemporary Chinese architecture more diversification, individuation and hommization.The article discussed the international market of glulam, the renaissance background of wooden building, and current domestic glulam ecclesiastical buildings. Explicated the concept, characteristics, main type of construction and materials of glulam, meanwhile, introduced the factory production and fabricated construction. The article simply reviewed the Chinese traditional wood structure ecclesiastical buildings, focused on the contemporary ecclesiastical building, in order to inherit culture and innovate technology simultaneously. The article researched glulam ecclesiastical building design methods from planning design, architecture design, node design and artistic expression four aspects, and summarized and analyzed some glulam ecclesiastical buildings.
