Green building and building energy-saving are the priority development area in our country now. A series of mandatory building energy-saving standards were published, all sorts of insulation systems were springing up in the market. But designers rarely highlights these insulation systems'adverse effect, only the height-thickness ratio is used to control it in our design code, and the out-of-plane collapse of infilled walls are very common in Wenchuan earthquake, so it is necessary to do some research for the out-of-plane safety of infilled walls. In this article, author do the experimental study on out-of-plane safety and out-of-plane mechanical performance of infill walls with composite thermal insulation siding. The research contents and achievements as follows:Through the out-of-plane static loading experiment of aerated concrete masonry, we research the failure pattern and failure process with the out-of-plane loading, the results indicate that the mainly failure pattern is horizontal crack and diagonal crack, the destroy position is concerned with the strength of four boundary constraints.Through the cracking loads, ultimate loads and failure loads of six walls, we make judgement of infill walls'safety with composite thermal insulation siding by a calculation example. The results indicate that the load capacity of infill walls can improve greatly after cracking, the height-thickness ratio is the decisive factor. We analysis the out-of-plane mechanical performance of infill walls according to the load-displacement curves. The results indicate that failure process contains elastic stage, elastic-plastic stage, plastic stage and failure stage. The quality of masonry can impact the mechanical performance greatly.Combination of the load-displacement curves, we research the action of tie bars of infill walls under out-of-plane loading. The results indicate that tie bars are not yield in ultimate status, the load-strain curves correspond to the load-displacement curves. The load and the displacement are the important influencing factors. The results of this article support for the mechanical performance of infill wall under out-of-plane loading and provided the reference for seismic designing.
