21st century has came for more than ten years, the politics, economy and culture of our country has made great achievements. With the rapid development of the country, City size continuously expanding, urban environment noise problem become more serious. Urban environment noise includes industry noise, traffic noise, construction noise and social life noise, among these, the traffic noise is the major source because of its huge impact. Use noise barriers to control traffic noise from the transmission is a very effective means.This paper introduces the development of noise barriers at home and abroad, introduces the types of noise barriers, but also discusses the design method of noise barriers and noise reduction theory, etc., Finally, introduces the method of using insertion loss to evaluate noise reduction effect of noise barriers.This paper through testing the noise reduction effect of the prototype noise barrier, researches the noise reduction characteristics of the noise barrier, then learns that the prototype noise barrier has a good noise reduction capability.Then, this paper discusses the theory of scale model test, introduces the similarity principle and the three theorems, and base on the similarity principle, finally gets the similarity criterion for scale model experiments of this paper.This paper also expatiates some knowledge about sound absorption materials and sound Insulation materials, describes some of the current mainstream sound absorption and sound insulation materials, in particularly highlights the perforated sound-absorbing board and polyester fiber sound-absorbing cotton and other new environmental protection materials. According to the characteristics of the materials, produces three noise barrier scale models with different materials, and does the noise reduction tests in the semi-anechoic room. Compares the noise reduction characteristics of the three scale models with the noise reduction characteristics of the prototype noise barrier, draws internal relations of prototype noise barrier and its scale models.Scale model test can simplify the difficulty of field measurements, the test process is unrestricted by external conditions and natural conditions, you can save money, manpower and time, and reduce unnecessary consumption and waste. The scale model test is conducive to highlight the main contradiction during the process in a complex trial, makes it easy to find the main rule. Through a large number of experiments, the ultimate goal is to use economical scale model test to accurately estimate noise reduction effects of prototype noise barrier, provides the reference for the design and practical applications of noise barriers.
