China is a producing steel big country, but the range of application, forschung and industrialized level of our steel structure have lagged far behind the western developed countries, so there are a lot of technical problems unresolved. Beam-column connection plays an important role in the mechanical properties of frame structure, but the steel structure design codes doesn't give a specific calculation method, therefore, it is necessary to study deeply.This paper reviews the research state, development prospect and the defect existing in the research and application of beam to column minor axis top and seat angle connection weak axis, studies the flexural performance and influence factors of the connection. It provides a certain reference for the design and research of beam-column angle semi-rigid node. Procedure and results of this study are as follows:(1) Based on component method and the main influence factors of the connection according to the past test, the paper studies the bearing capacity, destroying forms and other aspects of the semi-rigid connections, derives the theoretical formula of the initial rotational stiffness and the ultimate moment. The initial rotational stiffness of connection decides by the stiffness of angle steel, column webs and bolt, and the ultimate moment determines by minimum of the Angle steel, column webs and bolt's ultimate moment. Using the theoretical formula, this paper calculates the initial rotational stiffness and the ultimate moment with according to past experimental data, and compares the theoretical calculation result and experiment's. The theoretical calculation results are consistent with the experiment results so that the formula can compute the initial rotational stiffness and ultimate moment in engineering design.(2) Considering the mechanical properties of beam-column connection can be analyzed by finite element software ANSYS, finite element model is established to simulate the nonlinear mechanical behavior of beam to column minor axis top and seat angle connection. The certain accuracy is obtained through modeling load calculation, and the calculated results with theoretical calculation results were compared, the finite element method results are consistent with the theoretical calculation's, This is further proof that theory formula can be used in the engineering.(3) This paper designs nine models using the orthogonal experiment design, and calculates the initial rotational stiffness and ultimate moment of the nine models.Using analysis of range it systematically studies 3 major influencing factors, the thickness of the top and seat angle, the webs thickness,the bolt diameter, and the influence degree to the initial rotational stiffness is declined accordingly from the webs thickness to the thickness of the top and seat angle to the bolt diameter while the influence degree to the ultimate moment is declined accordingly from the thickness of the top and seat angle to the bolt diamete to the webs thickness. Through comparing the calculation results, we can come to the conclusion that the initial rotational stiffness and the ultimate moment of beam to column minor axis top and seat angle connect with the mechanical properties of the various components, and component change will cause substantial change of the initial rotational stiffness and the ultimate moment.
