The brake is a key component of car braking system, the performance of which is one of the important factors to affect the vehicle safety. With the development of infrastructure construction, the demand of high speed and heavy vehicle is also increasing. Improving the car brake and ensuring the safety of driving have become the primary task of designers. The main performance indexes of the brake are service life of brake shoes, braking performance factor numerical and its stability. However, the asymmetry in pressure distribution over brake lining has both direct and indirect influences on such criteria of indexes.Put the drum brake as the research object from our company, from the analysis of the domestic and overseas on the current research status of drum brake, introduced the working principle of drum brake, structural type and the selection of main components. By modeling the drum, shoes and brake linings with PRO\E, and then input the large finite element analysis software ABAQUS. And simulation analysis the drum brake on the brake state , got the stress distribution and displacement distribution of drum, shoes and brake linings, then analyzed the braking performance from which. For the optimization of the structure of brake structure, ensure other parameters under the condition of invariable, through changed the width of the brake shoes. And then analyzed the improved structures. Compared with before, the contact stress has reduced and improves the efficiency and service life of brake braking greatly. However, the increase of the width will bring the increase of the weight, this paper will discuss the brake shoes the optimal width in the follow-up work.Based on the modal analysis theory, put the finite element modal analysis of drum, shoes and brake linings. Got the natural frequency and vibration mode of the first 15 bands, which can provides the theory basis for the drum brake avoid resonance and reduce the braking noise.
