The importance of diesel engines which are used broadly as power even today when technique and science are developing highly doesn't release since it was invented more than 100 years. Connecting rod is a very important part and the main force transmission structure of diesel engines; both structure and force are complicated. The reliability and life of a diesel engine depends on the reliability and life of connecting rod in a good deal. There has been a lot of literature about structure analysis of connecting rods. Finite element method which develops quickly in recent years is the most influential and widely used calculation method now, so it is used in structure analysis in common. And making the intensity analysis about connecting rod with finite element method finer and finer is the development direction in the future. The reliability and life of a diesel engine depends on the reliability and life of connecting rod in a good deal. There has been a lot of literature about structure analysis of connecting rods. Finite element method which develops quickly in recent years is the most influential and widely used calculation method now, so it is used in structure analysis in common.This paper used a diesel engine connecting rod as study object, found holistic 3D finite element model of connecting rod, and analysis the stress and intensity of connecting rod in the max static tensile and compression; Based on that, it found the fine 3D finite element model including piston pin bushing, big end bearing, connecting rod, big end cover, connecting rod screw and crank pin, simplified some complicate character, set off the finite element in Hypermesh, analysis not only the stress of connecting rod in the max static tensile and compression condition, but also the contact pressure, penetration and friction of contact surface; At last, this paper built a bedstead, contrived a static tensile and compression experiment, got the stress and strain value of several main points. It contrasted the values which got from the two finite element methods calculations with the values which got from the experiment in different conditions, and the results from the calculations is coincident with experiment, the error of the main points is small, they are considered to be correct. So the analysis method and result in this paper could be consultable.
