Steel miter gate is a gate type commonly used. When steel miter gate opened and closed, they were exposed .With the large-scale development of ship in the busy waterway, the ship collided with the gate occur frequently, and pose a threat to the safe use of the gate. So when designing miter gate, it is necessary and reasonable to consider the role of impact forces on the gate. Basing on nonlinear finite element theory, the research simulates the process of the ship collision with the gate, and studies the factors of the impact force and the dynamic response of the steel miter gate.Initially, the paper introduces the structural characteristics of miter gate and the numerical model of ship building process. The numerical model considers the interaction between fluid and ship in collision problem;Secondly, in the paper, the ship collision with the miter gates were simulated, the factors influencing of ship impact force:ship`s ton, initial velocity and the different of impact angle are analized. And comparing the impact force which calculated by domestic and international norms, the paper get the relationship betweem ship impact force and the impact hight, ship`s ton, initial velocity, impact angle; using finite element method and the empirical formula, the results of impact force are different); as the process of ship impact the gate is dynamic, it is advised to use numerical simulation technology calculated impact force to select the appropriate engineering design requirements for the impact force. Finally, the paper analyzed the miter gate structural dynamic response after the ship collided with the gate, and compared the impact of miter gate structural dynamic response caused by different ship-ton and different initial velocity.(The relationship between gate stress, displacement and ship-ton, initial velocity is concluded. Analyzed the extension of gate stress and displacement.
