In land waterway is the important part of national integrated transport system andcomprehensive utilization of water resources. Accelerating the development of marinetraffic engineering not only meet the requirements of ecological civilization, but alsopromoting the development of sustainable economic. For the time being, along with therapid development of the national economy and the increasing comprehensive strength, due to poor infrastructure and defective shiplocks, water transportation is hard to meetthe requirements of the situation of the domestic water transport. In this urgent situation, the design and construction of the shiplock are facing more severe ordeal. As the mostcomplex part of the ship lock, miter gate plays an irreplaceable role in shiplock. Theaffordable and efficient of gate have a close relationship with construction cost andoperation efficiency. So the research of miter gate is more important. In order to design the miter gate speedily, demonstrate structure reliability andperfect design methods and research ideas, in this paper, in the engineering backgroundof Sanakham hydropower station shiplock, researches based on Ansys for miter gatewas carried out. First of all, shiplock’s project overview, the basic principles of finiteelement and Ansys function was introduced. And then the main components of theshiplock were designed by standard. The basic parameters of the gate ware obtained. After that, on this basis, the gate was numerical simulated with the known information. The simulation process included the following steps: created a entity model, definedunit types and constant, divided grids, applied loads and computational analysis. Thefinite element entities is established with Ansys entities and CAD3D entities. The entitymodel was defined by Solid45elements property. According to component requirements, the finite element model was created by Shell63, Solid45and Beam188property. Whenapplying loads on the gate, the hydrostatic pressure under normal navigable water levelwas considered mainly. According to the stress and strain results of the miter gatesimulation are obtained, the strength and the stiffness of total structure were assessed.Structural dynamics analysis using the finite element model of the gate, according to thebasic theory of the modal analysis and the vibration characteristics of structure tostudy the stress-strain state of miter gate vibration. The safety and reliability of the gatecan be determined finally.
