According to the problem of reflection cracks, differential settlement and rutting for asphalt pavement in reconstruction and extension projects, and combined with the 600m trial road of K6+000~K6+600 of linking provinces from Chengguan (Dushan) of Kaihua County in Zhejiang Province to Baishaguan of Jiangxi Province, the applying technologies of the joint section between new and existing asphalt pavement reinforced by double twisted steel wire mesh (DTSWM) were made a deep researches with a great quantity of indoor and outdoor experimental analyses and engineering verification.1) The physical-mechanical performances of raw materials including DTSWM, self-adhered glass fiber grill, steel-plastic composite geogrid and polyester-filament geotextile were tested. The results indicated that the raw materials were accord with the relevant specifications, and DTSWM were both mechanical properties and physical properties better than other reinforcement materials. So the engineering characteristics and the parameters of physical-mechanical performances of DTSWM were put forward.2) The combined specimens of interlayer bonding for big Marshall with different reinforced plans were prepared and tested by shear and direct extend tests. The results show that the performances of interlayer bonding for DTSWM are the same as the unreinforced asphalt mixture, and the performances of interlayer bonding from big to small in turn: unreinforced asphalt mixture > DTSWM > self-adhere glass fiber grill > steel-plastic composite geogrid > polyester-filament geotextile.3) The pavement performances of each reinforced asphalt mixture were evaluated with rutting test, bending test at low temperature and freeze-thaw split test. The results show that the reinforced asphalt mixtures are remarkably improved in the performances of anti-rutting and anti-crack at low temperature by comparing with that of the unreinforced asphalt mixture, at the same time, only the reinforced asphalt mixtures have a little weaken in anti-water-harm. Overall the reinforced asphalt mixtures have excellent pavement performances, the DTSWM first place, the self-adhered glass fiber grill second, the steel-plastic composite geogrid third, and the polyester-filament geotextile last. So the best paving location of DTSWM is determined. 4) Through determining the design plans of the trial road, the field construction were carried out, so the construction technology of DTSWM were summarized. In order to test the application effects for each reinforcement of asphalt pavements, the trial road were tested. The results show that the reinforced asphalt pavements have better pavement performances than that of the unreinforced asphalt pavement, but the pavement smoothness has weakened slightly. Overall, the reinforced asphalt mixtures have excellent pavement performances, the DTSWM first place, the self-adhered glass fiber grill second, the steel-plastic composite geogrid third, and the polyester-filament geotextile last.In brief, this study puts forward the parameters of physical-mechanical performances, the best paving location and the construction technology for the DTSWM to provide the scientific basis and the successful experiences for large-area application and dissemination for the DTSWM reinforcement in the joint section between new and existing asphalt pavement.
