With the growing power installed capacity, China's grid construction has entered a rapid development period, ending with the end of July 2009, the transmission lines of 220 kV and higher voltage levels had reached 375,000 kilometers, China's grid size had exceeded USA's, ranking first in the world. After China's power industry has entered into a new phase of development, with the large power grids, the large units, transmitting western power to eastern areas, reinforcing each other between north and south of China, being network in the nation, which makes grid structure of our country changed dramatically. Meanwhile, it puts forward higher requirements for calculation and analysis of the system stability.The generator excitation system assumes the important responsibility that regulates terminal voltage and ensures generator's stable operation under high load. It plays an important role in power system transient stability, dynamic stability and static stability, especially having an important effect on large-scale interconnected power systems stability. To accurately caculate various situation appearing in the power system operation,in addition to measuring in generators' parameters of power system, speed governor parameters and load parameters, the test of excitation system model parameters is also indispensable, which is an important part in the excitation system modeling.Therefore,it needs to study and analyze the excitation system. Meanwhile it needs to establish excitation system model in the simulation software, which facilitates researchers to accurately calculate fault conditions and makes the software simulation results more effective.This paper makes a analysis in excitation system model parameters identification and simulation of thermal power unit. We take the self-excited excitation system of 330MW turbine generator Unit in Datang Lubei Power Plant for example, it carries out the recording waveform and calculation and analysis of data for the self-excitation system from no-load and load tests systematically and comprehensively. on this basis, it furtherly increases the power system stabilizer and the leading phase, and completes the parameters test work in excitation regulator(AVR) and power system stabilizer(PSS), and then makes use of MATLAB and Power System Analysis Software Package(PSASP) to do simulation and verification for the test result of excitation system model parameters, in order to verify the local test results correct.
