In traditional structure designing, joints are always simplified to complete rigid connection and ideal hinged connection, which can make designing greatly simplified. But in actual projects, joints are not complete rigid connection or ideal hinged connection, and they are semi-rigid connection between them. Rigid connection with poor deformability and low energy dissipation capacity is liable to brittle failure, and semi-rigid connection steel frame with better seismic behavior could well solve the problem of bad ductility and brittle failure. So it has great practical significance of studying on semi-rigid connection. At present, many studies on semi-rigid connection have been carried out, but there are still deficiencies, so lots of experimental research and theoretical analysis are needed. The paper is proposed in this context.In this paper, research status at home and abroad are reviewed, semi-rigid connection type and behavior are introduced based on a large number of study on semi-rigid connection from both home and abroad. According to the finite element analysis in this paper, the basic theory of nonlinear finite element analysis is introduced. Using finite element analysis software ANSYS study the static behavior of end-plate connection under monotonic load, and compare to test results from Tsinghua University, the simulation method in this paper is proved reliable.Change endplate thickness, bolt diameter, bolt spacing, beam section height and stiffener, and study the influence of these factors to the capacity, deformation characteristics and moment-rotation(M-φ) curve characteristics. Reference an existing moment-rotation curve simplified calculation method, which is revised according to the finite element simulation results. Compare the calculated results to simulation results, it agrees well.Analyze the seismic behavior of end-plate semi-rigid connection and rigid connection under periodic load, study these capacity, stress deformation characteristics, failure mode, ductility and energy dissipation performance, and point out the advantage of endplate semi-rigid connection seismic behavior. At last, put forward the node seismic designing proposal "strong connection, weak plate" of end-plate connection.
