| Because of the accelerated pace of life in modern society, people's daily lives suffer from great pressure, so that many people choose to have journey on holidays in order to get relaxed. This is also a psychological desire to return to the great nature from the hustle and bustle modern city. With the coming of an era of leisure, it is a new opportunity for tourism growth by providing new places for the public. The development of Chinese hotel industry develops relatively late, and the aim of a hotel, in the past, was just to satisfy the business needs of accommodation so it did not take into account about some other extensive functions for relaxation. With the rapid economic development and the growth of national income, local tourism industry has been triggered out, so single-function rooms cannot meet the market demand, and hotels in resort areas become more competitive. Environment Design of hotels in the resort areas also encounters the most critical opportunities that never met, which requires Landscape Architects should take full considerations about many factors such as human geography, customs, and environmental protection. By considering the local culture, creating a rich and unique themed style, the real value of the hotels in the resort area should be shown.In foreign countries, it is a long history for outside environmental design, but in our own country, it started in recent years. Most of this kind of hotels stand on front edge and the landscape market of domestic hotels is always been monopolized by foreign design companies. The role of our domestic landscape designers is more like a subsidiary assistant; for example, they are only involved in plant growing areas. But with the booming national resort development, the situation changed a lot, and there are more opportunities for domestic designers. Facing such opportunities, the concept of classical garden space provides us with a great idea about how to link our the unique local culture and the natural environment around the hotels in designing.The purpose of this study is to provide a design strategy for external environment design of the hotels in resort areas, so that it can satisfy the public's needs from psychological aspect, by not only protecting the natural environment and taking advantages of the resources and the unique local culture. At the mean time, as shown in the traditional concept as "made by people but naturalism", the Chinese classical gardens always pursue the harmony between the humankind and the great nature, which offers the thought about hotel design in resort areas. Therefore, in this research, through the understanding about both the external environment of the resort hotels and the classical Chinese gardens, the author try to work out a external environment design strategy combined with the traditional concept of the Chinese gardens and then give some recommendations about how to use the real practice in hotel external environment design by using the strategy and finally combine the traditional Chinese gardens with the modern hotel design in resort areas. This study mainly contents:(1) To make literature review on relative concept about the space of Chinese classical gardens.(2) To analysis on the future developing trend and to estimate how much the landscape can add value for the hotels in resort areas.(3) To analysis the major impact factors, content, characteristics and design principals of the hotels in resort areas.(4) To show understanding on the concept of space application in Chinese gardens and how these spaces is divided and combined.(5) To provide a strategy for resort hotel external environment design through the dual understanding of the external space in traditional Chinese gardens and modern hotels in resort areas.(6) To apply the eternal environment design strategy combined with the concept of space in classical gardens for the Four Seasons Hotel, West Lake, Hangzhou.This research aims to provide some thought for domestic hotels design in resort areas through a fully understanding about the space in traditional Chinese gardens and the external environment around resort hotels. Besides, the author also appeals that the architects should consider about the characteristics of Chinese culture and take advantages of the features of the local natural landscape. In doing so, we hope that it can add value to the external environment of the resort hotels and a better utility of tourist resources and local culture with accordance to the traditional ways in garden designing. |
