Stone arch bridge is one of the oldest, the most distinguishing feature type of bridge in our country. With the development of transportation and scientific technology, various bridge-type appears. The stone arch bridge still plays an important role in our country with specific technical advantages such as great bearing capacity, long-span crossing, low engineering cost, low maintenance cost, beautiful shape and so on.After the founding of PRC, in order to satisfy the traffic demand of fast developing economy, our county constructed lots of stone arch bridges.However, at present, because of aging, low building standard, volume of traffic continually increasing, or poor construction and so many other reasons, there are common diseases have arisen, which have severely weakened the load-carrying capacity of these arched bridges. It becomes very prominent to study the diseases and its reasons and how to assess the load-carrying capacity of existing arch bridges. For our bridge workers it is an urgent task to strengthen and repair the service stone arch bridges to improve bridge's carrying capacity and traffic capacity.It can satisfy the economic development much betterSuch problems following are studied in this paper:1,This paper introduces the development history of the stone arch bridge in our country and the significance of strengthening stone arch bridges. The development of reinforcing analysis theory, design methods of stone arch bridges both in and out of China In thesis also stated.and calculation methods of load capacity.2,The common diseases and its reasons of stone arch bridges are systemically analyzed in this paper. Their actually carrying capacity and damage condition of stone arch bridge are evaluated, focusing on the load test method and finite element analysis concerned with non-linearity, which can provide technology data for the strengthening and maintenance.3,The strengthening methods of stone arch bridge are analyzed, focusing on the section enlargement method at stone arch bridge. Based on limit state and allowable stress method, the mechanism and construction of the two strengthening method are expounded. It presents the experienced formula of thickness in strengthening and an equation about reinforcing layer thickness based on allowable stress method. The reasonable thickness of reinforcing layer was established to determine.4,Take He Mo bridge for example,depending on the load test and diseases invest-gation of this arched bridges in Zhuzhou City, making a load capacity assessment.Bas-ed on experienced formula and the equation based on allowable stress method, the thickness of reinforcing layer was determined. Set up finite element model before and after reinforcement by ANSYS finite element analysis software.By comparing the results of the analysis before and after reinforcement,the strengthening method was evaluated.
