As a kind of lateral load resisting member, shear wall is widely used in a great deal of high-rise building structures. But ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls withstand a large earthquake and damage badly because of large stiffness. And the damage area is often located in the bottom of the structure, so it is difficult to repair. How to improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete shear wall to both maintain the advantages of high strength concrete, but also to meet the component's energy dissipation capacity and seismic performance requirements is an important current research direction.Based on the design concept of passive control, this paper fills viscoelastic material in the slit shear walls'slot in order to improve the seismic performance of shear walls. In this paper, nonliner finite element method is mainly used to study whole walls, slit walls and shear walls filled with viscoelastic material. A large number of research work is carried out in the following areas:(1) Elastic-plastic constitutive mechanics model of reinforced and concrete are built, and concrete damage is defined. Viscoelastic material is fitted by a group of shear relaxation test data in order to define the stress-strain relationship of viscoelastic material in ABAQUS.(2) The above defined material constitutive relationship and separated modeling method are used to build the nonliner finite element model of whole wall, slit wall and wall filled with viscoelastic material, and the walls are applied to a same rate monotonic loading. The results show that slot reduces shear wall's strength and stiffness, but the deformation capacity of the slit shear wall increases. After filling viscoelastic material in shear wall, the shear wall's bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity has improved while maintaining well ductility.(3) The impact of viscoelastic material slot's size on shear wall's property is researched by changing viscoelastic material slot's length and width. The results show that with the viscoelastic material slot's length increasing gradually, shear wall's bearing capacity and stiffness decreased, but the ductility was getting better and the drop part of load curve was getting more and more gentle. With the slot's width increasing gradually, the shear wall's response has no significant change. (4) A combination modeling method is used to build three kind of shear wall structure nonliner finite element model of whole wall, slit wall and wall filled with viscoelastic material, and they are analysed by modal analysis method and dynamic elastic-plastic time-history analysis method. The results show that slot reduced structure's stiffness, increase the vibration period and response of the top floor's displacement, but it is benefit to the bottom of structure's force and injury. Filling viscoelastic material in structure had no effect on structure's stiffness, but reduced the response of structure under earthquake load roundly and reduced the extent of structure's damage greatly, played a very good damping effect.
