Magnetic valve controllable reactor is a newly reactive power compensation device. It has an approximate linear A-V characteristic, less harmonics and relative less response time. It is the first device in the area of voltage regulation and reactive power compensation. The theory and function of Magnetic valve controllable reactor is illustrated in detail in the paper, the mathematical model is given, and its electromagnetism equations is presented. In the basis, a control circuit is designed which MSP430F449 made by TI company is selected as the core of controller. It realizes the sequential and automatic regulation of the reactor capacity.Firstly, we look back on the development of Magnetic valve controllable reactor and its situation today, point out its superiority compared with other reactive power compensation device, discuss the advantage and shortage of its control circuit nowadays, put forward to design a safe and stability control circuit with MSP430F449.Secondly, we found the electromagnetism equations in all working states by analyzing the magnetic flux, present the relationship between the control voltage of thyristors and the line voltage. The equations between the control and output current are given.Finally, the paper introduces the software and hardware realization of the device, and recounts the measurements and ways adopted in detail. According to the current lower-power, high-integration and miniaturization tendency in instrument, MSP430F449 is selected as thecore of controller. It is a new ultralow-power MCU consisting of different sets of modules targeted to various applications. The sample of simulative signal is based on it' s ADC12 module. It' s timer is used in the measure of signal period and timing. Initial operating parameters are stored in information flash memory of the MCU using flash self-programming technique. The hardware is compact, reliable and steady. The method of self-suit regulating sampling period and Fourier filter algorithm is used in software . The power factor, active and reactive power are calculated using the algorithm which can predigest operation and enhance precision of measure. The program in MCU is compiled with IARC so that it is easy to read and expand functions in future. The paper also illustrates some practical hardware and software reliability measures.
