China is an ancient country with numerous monuments and sites. As the economic development and urbanization accelerated, site protection and utilization have become increasingly close with the modern social. Kang ling, a King's Grave in the Southern Han Dynasty, which is located on Xiaoguwei Island in Guangzhou,is the representation of artifacts in that period. Since the completion of salvage excavation in2004, its protection and utilization are unsatisfactory. The protection project should be done to provide more protection and utilzation. It's not a long time since the protection of archaeological sites started in China. By the economic, social and other factors, the architectural design focused mainly on civil industrial construction which can bring the short-term benefits. The conservation building for sites are often under the museum and the exhibition architecture in the design. Lacked of design information and specific standards, it's hard to reflect the specificity of the conservation building in the design. With the comparative study of the design theory, methods and examples of domestic and foreign conservation building for sites, the thesis attempt to clarify the design features of the conservation building for sites, analyse the various effects of special factors, sum up the design methodology, technical measures and details, to guide the design and practice of. the conservation building for sites.Based on these studies, the thesis attempt to put the design of the conservation building for Nan Han Kang Ling into a analysis system. With the serious consideration of the various factors relating to the project and the comparison of the various design methods, techniques, and details, design features and architectural design will be proposed in planning, architectural design and engineering aspects.
