As our country is in a period of social and economic restructuring, the demand for creative talent is more and more pressing. Engineering innovation is the main part of innovation and the training of engineering innovative talents is very important. How to cultivate engineering innovative talents has become an important topic in the engineers' education in China. China's engineering talents' cultivation has made some achievements but there are still many problems. One of the most prominent of these problems is the convergence of training goals, how to avoid the "convergence" is the difficulty in the reform of engineering education, and is also the starting point of this study.This study is divided into the following sections:Firstly, this paper elucidates the importance and possibility of the engineering innovative talents'classification, and divides the engineering innovative talents into five types:research oriented innovation talent; professional and technical innovation talent; technical-integrated innovation talent; creative talent of product&design and project management talent in accordance with the production or work process and the purpose, innovative form and the community demands. And then it constructs the different types of engineering innovative talents'quality structure, which is the main basis of the curriculum. With this analysis of this layer, course setting can achieve training objectives more effectively.Secondly, curriculum is the main means of the construction of talents' quality structure; it is also an important support to facilitate the classification of talents. After getting a clear idea about the social needs of the engineering innovative talents'types, how to plan and implement training process requires a matching training mode. In the innovation personnel training system, course setting undertakes the responsibility of engineering talents'knowledge construction and ability training as well as other qualities'formation. Therefore, the research takes the course setting of Science and Engineering majors in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Ohio State University, American and Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, East China University of Science and Technology, China as the objects of analysis, to discuss the engineering innovation personnel training curriculum divided into different disciplines, professional and the same subject respectively of Polytechnic Schools in America, which has a strong engineering education. Through the comparative study between China and America, this paper finds that science and technology curriculum of China's universities is insufficient in support of the quality construction of different types of engineering innovation talents and features and characteristics are fuzzy in the same specialty's course setting.Finally, this paper aims to draw lessons from the course setting of the United States of America Universities for improving the convergence of training objectives and curriculum in our engineering talents training. China's engineering innovative talents training in the curriculum should reflect:carrying out a wide, special and crossed knowledge education on creative engineering talents; strengthening the engineering practice training and case teaching, strengthening the sense of innovation, designing ability and pioneering methods training; at the same time, enriching the forefront of science and technology, innovation cases, the crossed science and humanities knowledge in the curriculum. These advice aim to enhance the spirit of innovation, improve the comprehensive quality and promote the all-round development of people.
