In an era when industrial technology is facing global changes,the quality and quantity of engineering talents has become an extremely vital factor in measuring the level of a country’s technological and economic.In the process of reorganization,a new world order will be constructed.A country,who wants to seize the strategic heights of new technologies and industries,has to reform engineering education and cultivate talents featured with “future abilities”.The Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs),declared as Institutes of National Importance by the Institutes of Technology Act,represent the explorers,leaders and planners of engineering education in India.Meanwhile,some of the Indian Institutes of Technology are selected as one of the Institutes of Eminence.Thus,it will have great significance to researchers.This study takes the IITs as instances to explore the evolution of engineering talents training model of India institutes of eminence.First of all,the study research the evolution of engineering talents training model of IITs,which covers training goals,curriculum systems,teaching methods and quality evaluation in four different periods,including exploration,reflection,improvement,and innovation.Furthermore,by combing through these changes in every period,then nesting the quadruple spiral innovation ecosystem theory as analysis framework,the transformation logic is analyzed.That is,there exists a power change that from the government control to a multi-stakeholder co-governance—— "government-university-industry-civil society".On the basis of an in-depth exploration in the process and evolution mechanism of engineering talents training model of IITs,the study suggests that the engineering talents training model in our country should make efforts in engineering education ideas,talents structures,curriculum,teaching methods,and evaluation systems,which provided on the reality of Chinese engineering education circumstances.These suggestions are:(1)shaping the engineering education ideas at both internal and external levels,(2)forming future-oriented engineering talents structures,(3)reconstructing student-centered curriculum systems,(4)strengthening engineering practice capabilities by using research teaching methods,and(5)building a comprehensive quality evaluation system.
