With the development of the power system, the increasing complexity of the electric network structure and the expanding distribution range, the workload and the cost of maintenance are on the increase. Since a long time ago, the overhaul of the power transformer equipments has been following the periodic maintenance system, namely, examining the equipments when they become due and fixing them when they need to be fixed. This maintenance system is to the benefit of eliminating the possible breakdown or shortage of the equipments needed overhaul, but it isn't determined according to their actual situation. As a result, those equipments in good condition are not able to improve operating ratios, which will lead to the waste of manpower and material resources. In addition, the good equipments may be botched up. Under this circumstance, a new maintenance system is needed to change the current status, so condition based maintenance emerges.First of all, this article introduces the current status of the maintenance of the relay protection equipments and puts forward the existing problems. Secondly, it discusses the application of the online motoring technology in depth. Thirdly, it emphasizes on the application of the condition based maintenance modules in the PMS system and it involves a computerizing management system which may reflect all the information of the standby redundancies based on the current management mode. Finally, according to the real work experience, it gives a detailed introduction of the practical application of the condition based maintenance of the relay protection combined with various regulations.
