Because of its unique aerodynamics and inherent maneuverability, the use of helicopters for military and civilian applications is ever increasing. However, the accidents rate of helicopters is much higher than fixed-wing craft, since their complicated task environment. Among all the obstacles threatening the safety of helicopters, power line is the most formidable. Even under ideal visual conditions, one might difficult to detect the power line reliably.Helicopter borne millimeter collision avoidance system can ensure flight safety by digging out obstacles located on the flight path, warning pilots of the coming danger. There is a long way to realize practicality, though an obvious advancement has been achieved in helicopter collision avoidance research domain. The thesis has a study on working principle and design essentials of millimeter collision avoidance system, makes an intensive analysis of the key technologies, e.g. antenna, servo and power line detection algorithm. Based on the analysis, the thesis puts forward the design scenario of the radar, which has been proved to satisfy collision avoidance requirement. The analysis is meaningful for our country to develop this kind of device.
