As a important component of a vehicle chassis systems, Electric Power Assisted Steering(EPS) is essential to vehicle handling and stability, driving safety and driving comfort.Today, we all advocate energy efficiency, comfort and safety , the traditional mechanical steering system is not well meet the requirements, electric power steering system as a new power steering system, with its energy saving, environmental protection, excellent handling characteristics and steering Road sense, become the focus of power steering technology.Electric power assisted steering is a newer technology in the steering system , has developed rapidly in China. Its performance and reliability testing has not been a unified approach and evaluation criteria, the main purpose of this study is to analysis the electric power steering on the vehicle steering performance and characteristics according to its proposed power control, return control and damping control strategy based on the structure characteristics of electric power steering. Due to the interference factors for the steering system to its adverse effects, use of the robust control theory and principles of genetic algorithms to design a genetic algorithm based robust control of electric power steering system, for the interference of Electric power steering system, this paper using robust control theory and genetic algorithm design a hybrid robust controller based on genetic algorithm of the electric power steering system, to reduce interference that due to model imprecise and error of the sensor system.Useing of Matlab / Simulink software to model electric power steering system then simulat with Carsim vehicle model . According to actual demand, the construction of electric power steering system hardware in the loop test bench, to provide a basis for bench test. Through this study, the design for the steering system provide a reference for adjustment to modern chassis, steering systems design and development and performance evaluation have important guiding significance.
