With the increasing diversification of product design,The emotional design of products has become the trend of the modern product design. With emotional design as a breakthrough point and based on theoretical research and case study, this thesis makes an exploratory study on the visual languages from the perspectives of products'color, shape and material, hoping it will provide helpful references for researchers and practitioners.Based on literature review and the theories of design semantics and psychology,this thesis analyzes the key elements of visual formal languages in emotional product design, and further explores diverse ways to express these elements in emotional design. Meanwhile, the expressions of visual languages in emotional design are also analyzed by case studies. The main conclusions are as follows:First, visual formal languages are kinds of voiceless languages in product design. They can communicate emotions, ideas and information by visual patterns composed of images, shapes and colors. The special visual formal languages in emotional design include colors, forms and materials of products.Second, in emotional product design, with the characteristics of symbolism and aesthetics of product's colors, designers can communicate and interact with consumers emotionally and show customers the rich charms of products by artful and reasonable color emotional expressions. By the analysis of cases of color designs in product design, it is illustrated that the design of products'colors not only can psychologically reflect people's visual aesthetic feeling, and give products different emotions, but also can help designers express the themes better, further arouse people's emotions, and eventually, influencing consumers'decisions.Third, the form of a product is an explanatory identification symbol and artistic language used to communicate between the product and the users. The emotional expression of product forms is mainly reflected through the point and line, surface and shape as well as the combination of all of them. Thus, a product's form not only can give it a strong visual appeal, but also can possess rich cultural feeling, nationality and pleasure. Through the case analysis, the thesis explains that the uses of visual language of form not only meet material needs of the consumers, but also satisfy the consumers' aesthetic and spiritual demands. And formal language in product design has become an important means of innovation in product design.Fourth, product materials in product designs are independent of human consciousness, and thus objectively exist. They can influence consumers'purchasing emotions by symbolic languages such as vision, touch and smell. Different materials bring different feelings to people and different emotional meanings for their different textures, colors and so on. Combining with examples illustrating product material design, the thesis points out that the material is an important medium to express the product's emotion, and it can break the boring single design patterns. Through the emotional material language, designers can capture the hidden emotions deep in the modern people's hearts and make consumers fully enjoy the fun of using the product.
