Arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) as well as the oscilloscopes and other electronic measuring instrument, is the indispensable electronic devices of the electronic engineers when they do the work like the experiment, test and debug. AWG has a short history, it was different with the traditional signal generator or the generator, it not only can produce sine wave, square wave, the index wave which is commonly used in standard signal waves, but also often used to generate test a variety of waveform scrambling, and the test can quickly solve engineering problems for the traditional signal generator provided by the office of less than experimental means.Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) is a new frequency synthesis technology which was produced by the early seventies, it was widespread application with the price reduction and performance improvement of the field programmable gate array device (FPGA), and also it provided a new design pattern for the design of modern electronic digital systems. This paper combined these two technologies and the ARM microcontroller, designed a dual-channel phase shift of the AWGThis paper firstly introduced the research background of arbitrary waveform generators and the basic theory of direct digital frequency synthesis technology. Then introduced the EP3C25Q240C8 field programmable gate array of the Altera company's Cyclone III series as the design platform of DDS in this design, and take full advantage of the parallelism of the device and rich resources such as gates. CPU choose the Samsung's S3C2440 used as a control chip. Using Altera's QuartusⅡsoftware development environment combined with Verilog HDL hardware description language, completed the design of dual-channel AWG of phase shift. On this basic, we did the program demonstration about the DDS architecture module, determined the appropriate design and simulation after the program was carried out, and then did the relate manner demonstration and design of the phase-shifted dual-channel waveform, after that we did some simulation experiments about the phased-shift AWG on the hardware in the home-made platform design, so that the two output waveforms can achieve the phase shift in the range of 0°-360°, phase resolution is better than 0.04°and the frequency resolution is better than 0.18μHz, in order to adapt to a wider range of applications occasions. We designed the parallel communication interface between the FPGA and ARM to make sure they can communication properly. And then through a series of experiments to test the AWG system, and analyzed the waveform generator to the experimental results and performance indicators. Finally, according to the some shortcomings of the design summarized some experiences, and put forward some improvement suggestions. Through the analysis of the test results, the design achieved the request, and proved by using software combined with hardware, based on FPGA realizing DDS framework of double channel can be arbitrary waveform generator phase shifting of the design is feasible.
