This study aims to examine the stability of different types of sodium butyrate and effects on the production performance, intestinal growth and digestive enzyme activities of weaning piglets, providing a reference for the sodium butyrate's application in the production of weaned piglets. Test is divided into two parts: one test was designed by single-factor experiment, and two different types of sodium butyrate were took to study the effects of moisture in feedstuffs, premix feedstuffs carrier, and different granulation conditions on the stability of sodium butyrate, as well as to investigate the retention rate of different types of sodium butyrate in animal stomach and small intestine. The results are as follows: once the moisture of feedstuffs is below 15%, the loss rate of sodium butyrate increase with adding of feedstuffs moisture, but the stability of coated sodium butyrate is well. Different rice husk powder and premix feed vector has the minimum impact on the stability of sodium butyrate, 2.0% and 0% respectively. Calcium carbonate takes a more important role in the loss of as carrier for the loss of sodium butyrate, 11.0% and 1.0% respectively. The temperature for granulation is higher, the much loss of sodium butyrate. Sodium butyrate powder is digested in the upper parts for gastro and intestine on the artificial condition, but some of sodium butyrate can access to the posterior of small intestine. According to the above result, we can take a safe conclusion that the stability for enveloped sodium butyrate is higher than sodium butyrate powder in the feed processing and digestive process. The single factor design was conducted into test II, too. 96 good healthy of about 28 days old DurocĂ—LandraceĂ—Yorkshire crossbred piglets with close weight were took, and divided into three groups randomly: control (basic diet), sodium butyrate powder(basic diet+ sodium butyrate powder ), granulation sodium butyrate (basic diet+ granulation sodium butyrate), every group repeated for four times, every repeat has 8 piglets, the experimental period is 28 days. It is demonstrated that both different kinds of sodium butyrate can improve the daily weight adding and decrease the bowel rates compare to control (P<0.05). The ratio of feed to meat is improved dramatically by using granulation sodium butyrate (P<0.05). The depth of duodenum, ileum, and duodenal pits are increased obviously, and the ratio of length of bloom to the depth of pits, as well as intestine digestive enzyme for 28 days piglets weaned for 7 days or 14 days is increased drastically by adding sodium butyrate in feeds. It is showed that productive performance, digestive enzyme activity, and morphology of digestive tracts for weaned piglets can improved by adding sodium butyrate in feeds. Besides, the granulation sodium butyrate has the better performance than sodium butyrate powder.
