The development of garlic planting machine is very important in agricultural mechanization, since sorting machine developing is very difficult. The traditional sorting machine, in which is pure mechanical, could make the planting does not work and even could not achieve precise control because the garlic seed easily get stuck.Digital image processing is a technology that theory has well-developed and application is very extensive. It can solve foregoing problem when separate sorting machine from planting and use digital image processing technology.The objective of this study is to design and produce a high precision garlic seeds sorting machine. This research consists of industrial video camera, computer, conveying belt, stepper motor, PLC, photoelectric detector and stepper motor controllerThe major works of this study are the following:1 Defined garlic size according to the shape of garlics, designed a box which can just accommodate one garlic seeder, in order to be sure the garlics can easily get out of the seed boxes, the box has a thin bottom.2, According to the shape of garlic seeds, a model was developed to identify garlic seeds direction based on Visual C++6.0 software, in which the technology of digital image processing such as conversion, division and expansion was used. The results indicated that the direction of most garlic seeds could be greatly identified and the correct recognition rate reached 92%.3, Designed a delivery device based on the existing delivery equipment, garlic box can transported by the device from the fill equipment to the seeds' box.4, Designed a sorting device. The sorting device does not work,the seeds be transported to the seeds' box,now the garlic's head direction is specified. Sorting device work, so the seeds be transported to another device, now the garlic's head direction is non-specified. The sorting device controlled by PLC which connect to computer's COM controlled by Visual C++ programming and control stepper motor of sorting device.5, Designed a seeds' box shaped like a well. The seeds' box is compatible with a plant device. The bottom of seeds' box was punctured in order to put garlic enter seeds' box easily.6, An experiment was built to test 70 garlic seeds which able to accurately identify and transported to the designated seed box and the non-designated devices have reach 63,in order to test the accuracy of ranking institutions,. The results show that the sortint machine separate from garlic planting is possible. This study also provides a platform for the follow-up study.
