Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effect of different kinetic coefficients of friction to space closure using sliding mechanics by nonlinear finite element method.Method:Firstly, we established a three-dimensional geometry model composed of upper dentition-periodontal tissues-wire-straight wire appliance by laser scanning, CAD and geomagic 5.0, ideas software and three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models which were given different kinetic coefficients of friction by 0.15,0.2 and 0.5were set up. Secondly,in order to simulate the real contact situation, we defined contact relation between teeth, wire and brackets. Finally, the three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models with various kinetic coefficients of friction were calculated using nonlinear finite element method. The contacts between the arch wire and the brackets, the displacement of maxillary canine and the first molar and the periodontal stress distribution under different friction coefficient were analysised.Results:1. The contact state between the arch wire and brackets didn't change with friction coefficients.2. When the friction coefficient changed, there was no significant difference observed in the displacement of either canine or molar. 3. When the friction coefficient changed, there was no significant difference observed in periodontal stress distribution. Conclusion:The different values of coefficient of friction didn't affect the resistance of sliding in space closure by sliding mechanics.
