Laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) or reflux laryngopharyngitis, an extraesophageal variant of gastroesophageal reflux disease, is associated with hoarseness, throat-clearing, chronic cough, sore throat, and dysphagia. Laryngoscopy manifestation includes edema, erythema, ventricular obliteration, or postcricoid hyperplasia and so on. LPRD is common. Nevertheless, controversy persists regarding its pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment. We report 3 cases with LPRD and review the literature, to improve the knowledge of pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of LPRD. The clinical experiences in treating such cases indicate us that empiric anti-reflux treatment is safe and feasible and it may be the most valuable method in diagnosis of LPRD.
