Background/PurposeRadiofrequency ablation tends to be regarded as a minimally invasive technology. It has been reported that radiofrequency ablation may be preferable to other modalities for treatment of colorectal cancer with liver metastases. by contributing to improve overall survival. We analyzed overall survival (OS), overall survival after radiofrequency ablation and progress free survival (PFS) of colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases who underwent radiofrequency ablation. And the long-term influence factors for OS and PFS of these patients were analyzed in our study.MethodsA retrospective study was conducted with 49 patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation for colorectal cancer with liver metastases. The overall survival rate and long-term influence factors for OS, OS after RF and PFS were followed up and evaluated. Survival curve was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. The influence factors of OS, OS after RF and PFS were analyzed by the Log-Rank test. And the correlation ship between various factors and OS was analyzed by multivariate Cox regression analysis.ResultsThe median overall survival was 38.9 months. The median overall survival after radiofrequency ablation was 25.5 months. And the median PFS was 14.8 months. The overall 1,2,3,4,5-year survival rates for colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases who treated by RFA were 100%,74%,51%,36% and 30%. The overall 1,2, 3,4,5-year survival rates post RFA were 80%,49%.24%.16% and 16%. Univariate analysis found that overall survival was closely correlated with times of RFA and resection of liver lesion (p=0.015 and 0.026, respectively). OS post RFA was closely correlated with CEA, times of RFA and resection of liver lesion (p=0.012,0.017 and 0.014, respectively). PFS was closely correlated with CEA (p=0.042). Multivariate Cox analysis indicated that gender difference, age. number of liver lesions, times of RFA and CEA were independent risk factors of local recurrence.ConclusionRadiofrequency ablation is effective and safe for the treatment of colorectal cancer with liver metastases. Times of RFA. CEA and resection of liver lesion are main influence factors for the prognosis of colorectal cancer with liver metastases post RFA. gender difference, age. number of liver lesions, times of RFA and CEA are independent risk factors of local recurrence.
