Outcome Of Radiofrequency Ablation For Colorectal Liver Metastases

ObjectiveTo investigate the indications,safety and prognostic factors of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for the treatment of colorectal liver metastases(CRLM).MethodsThis study was retrospectively analyzed in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University from June 1,2010 to October 25,2015.A total of 87 CRLM cases treated by RFA were retrospectively analyzed. Potential prognostic factors were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier model, Log-rank test of univariate analysis and Cox regression model of multivariate analysis.Resultsthe median overall survival (OS)for all parents was 45.1 months after the diagnosis of CRLM, the median survival after the radiofrequency (RFA) was 28.3 months, and the median progression free survival (PFS) was 13.2 months after the RFA treatment.Tumor number(P=0.004),diameter(P=0.001), resection of colorectal cancer (P= 0.011), success ablation of 1 month after RFA (P=0.001) and metachronous/ synchronous hepatic metastases (P=0.036)were potential risk factors for OS after RFA by univariate analyses.And Tumor number(P=0.047),diameter(P=0.001), resection of colorectal cancer (P= 0.011), success ablation of 1 month after RFA (P=0.001) and prior hepatectomy (P=0.036)were potential risk factors for PFS after RFA by univariate analyses.The OS after RFA was correlated with tumor number, diameter and success ablation of 1 month after RFA by Cox multivariate model. Cox multivariate analysis indicated that PFS was correlated with tumor diameter and success ablation of 1 month after RFA. The main complications included fever, abdominal pain, liver damage.No RFA related death happened.ConclusionsRFA is a safe and effective therapeutic option for colorectal liver metastases, especially for those with diameter<3cm and solitary tumor.
