Objective:To investigate and analyze the rationality and safety of chemotherapy and supporting medications in patients suffering from cancer hospitalized from 2008~2010 in the department of thoracic surgery, and give the advance, for improving the effectivity and safety of cancer chemotherapy. Methods:A retrospective analysis was used,112 patients (412 cases) hospitalized from 2008~2010 in the department of thoracic surgery were involved. The patients' fundamental status, use of chemotherapy drugs and supporting medication, etc. were recorded, data was calculated by EXCEL. According to《Guidelines of Lung Cancer Therapy》(2007 edition),《Guidelines of Clinical Therapy》(Tumor Edition),《New Pharmacology》(16th edition) and《Clinical Drug Reference》, the drug prescriptions and rationality of the drug use were evaluated.Results:112 patients,412cases,861 items of chemotherapy drugs orders and 4609 items of supporting medications orders were involved. In the 861 orders, reasonable orders were 603 (70.03%). In the 4609 supporting medication orders,4300 (95.65%) orders were reasonable. The irrationalities were showed below:dosage of cisplatin was not enough, solvent selection of carboplatin was inappropriate; so did the concentration, sequence of medication and interval infusion. Preprocessing, route of administration and indication were inappropriate. There were unreasonable combined administration leading to adverse reaction and unproved usage.Conclusions:1.The use of drugs during chemotherapy was basically reasonable in the department of thoracic surgery. Individual formula was made correctly in lights of type, stage of tumors, pathologic diagnosis and pathophysiology, so were the supporting medications. However, there was some shortages, such as insufficient dosage for cisplatin, improper solvent and unsuitable preprocessing, etc.2. Some advices were put forward on the basis of this study:pharmacists collaborated with doctors should be involved in establishing the formula, nurses should cooperate with pharmacists also, the treatment should be supervised by the pharmacists who should guide the patients how to administrate properly.
