Objective:Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases have become the major diseases that threaten human health, atherosclerotic is the main pathological basis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Endothelial dysfunction, smooth muscle cell proliferation, platelet aggregation and thrombosis activation are the main pathogenesis. Currently preventing the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis has become a focus of the study. In this experiment through detecting the levels of plasma renin activity in patients of different intima-media thickness and carotid atherosclerosis nature to study the relationship between atherosclerosis and plasma renin activity. And to explore the relevance of low-density lipoprotein and uric acid with plasma renin activity. Providing a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis.Method:From May 2010 to January 2011,choosing 104 patients of coronary heart disease at Department of Cardiology of the Taishan medical school affiliated hospital as the object of study. Clinical symptoms, ECG and coronary angiography meet diagnostic criteria for coronary heart disease. Also choose 24 patients without coronary heart disease over the same period as a control group. Recording the nature of carotid atherosclerosis and the thickness of intima-media through carotid color doppler ultrasound separately, while detecting plasma renin activity by radioimmunoassay and testing lipids and uric acid levels on blood biochemical analyzer.Results:1. Comparison of plasma renin activity with different intima-media: plasma renin activity level in group of 0.9≤IMT<1.0 , group of 1.0≤IMT<1.1 and group of 1.1≤IMT<1.2 were increased compared with controls, difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). plasma renin activity level in group of 1.1≤IMT<1.2 was increased when compared with group of 0.9≤IMT<1.0 and group of 1.0≤IMT<1.1, difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between group of 0.9≤IMT<1.0 and group of 1.0≤IMT<1.1(P﹥0.05).2. Comparison of plasma renin activity with different plaques comparison nature: plasma renin activity levels were increased in strong echo group, low echo group and mixed echo group compared with controls, difference is statistically significant (P < 0.05). plasma renin activity level in mixed echo group were increased compared with strong echo group and low echo group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).3. Levels of plasma renin activity and levels of low-density lipoprotein are positively correlated (P = 0.023, r = 0.237).4. Levels of plasma renin activity and levels of blood uric acid was positively correlated (P = 0.030, r = 0.227).Conclusion:1. Plasma renin activity may be involved in the atherosclerotic plaque formation and the plaques occurrence and development. Plasma renin activity may be a potential marker of unstable atherosclerotic plaques that can be regarded as one of predictor on the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis and plaque instability.2. Low density lipoprotein, blood uric acid and plasma renin activity are related to atherosclerosis.
