Objective: We detected the levels of plasma P-selectin and vWF of essential hypertension patients and hypertension patients with persistent atrial fibrillation, then compared the contents between them, to investigate the status of platelets and endothelial cells in persistent atrial fibrillation patients, also to study the prethrombotic state and the dangerous of thromboembolia of these patients. This study maybe provide a rational for early learning high risk patients who suffered from atrial fibrillation, and take the clinic measures on time to prevent the thromboembolia. Methods : One hundred and eight patients with essential hypertension were enrolled into this study. Seventy eight of them were complicated with persistent atrial fibrillation (group A), thirty of them were suffered from pure essential hypertension(group B). According to the cardiac function stardand of New York Heart Association(NYHA), the group A was divided into four subgroups. Twenty healthy people were taken as control group(group C). Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect the plasma levels of P-selectin and vWF in these groups. Results: The plasma levels of P-selectin in persistent atrial fibrillation group [(4.92±0.57)ng/ml]were higher than the pure essential hypertension group [(4.89±0.65)ng/ml]and the control group [(4.66±0.48)ng/ml], But the result showed no significant difference among them. Compared persistent atrial fibrillation group with pure essential hypertension group, P=0.856, there was no statistically significant. The plasma levels of vWF in persistent atrial fibrillation group [(125.21±13.55)ng/ml]were higher than the pure essential hypertension group[(115.56±9.17)ng/ml], the result showed significant difference between them, the levels of vWF in pure essential hypertension group were also higher than the control group[(107.24±9.74)ng/ml], the result also showed statistical significance between them, P=0.019. In the persistent atrial fibrillation group, the plasma levels of P-selectin showed no significant difference among the four subgroups(P﹥0.05). There ware no statistical significance in the plasma levels of vWF between gradeⅠand gradeⅡ(P=0.544), while the gradeⅣ[139.21±10.27)ng/ml] showed significantly higher than the gradeⅢ[129.54±11.73)ng/ml], the gradeⅢwere increased significantly than the gradeⅡ[120.52±12.01)ng/ml](P<0.05).Conclusions: Dysfunction of endothelial cells were found in hypertension patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. The levels of plasma vWF increased with the degrees of heart dysfunction. The plasma levels of vWF maybe useful to evaluate the prethrombotic state and the dangerous of thromboembolia in these patients. But the levels of P-selectin can not predict embotic events of persistent atrial fibrillation. The levels of P-selectin and vWF showed no strong correlation in persistent atrial fibrillation patients(r=0.3).
