Background:After discovered Nitric oxide with biological effects in human, physiologist Lars Gustafsson reported that the nitric oxide had been detected from healthy human subjects'exhaled air. Then, Alving and his colleagues found that the level of exhaled nitric oxide in patients with asthma was significantly higher than that in healthy subjects. This is a new era of respiratory system research. Now more and more research shows that determination of exhaled nitric oxide is a kind of effective, noninvasive method to evaluate airway inflammation in asthma. Currently most research focuses on the relationship between exhaled nitric oxide and airway eosinophilic inflammation, together , some researches shows that the airway inflammatory in asthma includes not only eosinophilic inflammation, and including noneosinophilic inflammation. The relationship of FENO and airway noneosinophils inflammation is not clearly, further research will be needed. Objective:To identify the relationship between exhale nitric oxide(FENO) and serum Eosinophil cationic protein(ECP), IL-13, IL-8 in acute asthma exacerbation, thus indirect understanding the effect of FENO in complex airway inflammation, and providing basical theory for the application in clinical. Methods: Select patients with acute asthma exacerbation from The first Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from Novermber 2010 to March 2011, record the clinical date, then measure FENO, detect the level of serum ECP, IL-13, IL-8 using ELISA. All date were recored and analyzed with SPSS 16.0Results:1. The bronchus asthma group FENO(50.97±40.55) was significantly higher than healthy controls(14.80±6.01); The bronchus asthma group serum ECP(14.29±3.73) was significantly higher than healthy controls(4.34±2.08); The bronchus asthma group serum IL-13(20.83±7.72) was significantly higher than healthy controls(9.14±2.30); The bronchus asthma group serum IL-8(62.56±20.85) was significantly higher than healthy controls(9.81±2.98); All P value were less than 0.001, has the remarkable statistical significance.2. Patients with allergic rhinitis FENO(73.53±47.99) was significantly higher than without allergic rhinitis patients(20.46±14.51),P<0.001, has the remarkable statistical significance; without allergic rhinitis asthma FENO(20.46±14.51) compare- d with normal control(14.80±6.01) , P= 0.589, > 0.05, was not statistically significant.3. In acute asthma exacerbation, Analysis FENO and the serum total IgE , we can obtained the correlation coefficient R value is 0.185, P = 0.329,>0.05, no statistical significance, indicating the FENO with IgE were unrelated.4. In acute asthma exacerbation, Analysis FENO and serum ECP, we can obtained the correlation coefficient R value is 0.374; analysis FENO and serum IL-13, we can obtained the correlation coefficient R value is 0.371; analysis serum ECP and IL-13, we can obtained the correlation coefficient R value is 0.439 ,all P value were less than 0.05, has statistical significance.5. In acute asthma exacerbation, Analysis FENO and serum IL-8, we can obtained the correlation coefficient R value is -0.252, P = 0.179,>0.05, no statistical significance, indicating the FENO with IL-8 were unrelated.Conclusion:1. The bronchus asthma group FENO was significantly higher than healthy controls; patients with allergic rhinitis FENO was significantly higher than without allergic rhinitis patients.2. Analysis FENO and the serum total IgE were unrelated , maybe exist the effect of corticosteroid.3. In acute asthma exacerbation, among FENO and serum ECP and IL-13 have exist positive correlation, shows FENO was a marker of eosinophilic airway inflammation.4. In acute asthma exacerbation, FENO and serum IL-8 were unrelated.
