Objective: To explore the application value of magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in skeletal muscle tumors and to study the feasibility of different receive coils. To provide more information like the scope of lesions for the operation.Materials and methods: Twenty one patients with skeletal intramuscular masses who underwent magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging with GE Signa 1.5T MR were collected, of which there were 12 cases of males, 9 cases of females. The age range was between 13 to 66 years old, and the mean age was 41.1 years old. All tumors were proven histologically including 13 cases of benign tumor and 8 cases of malignant tumor. All DTI examinations were performed with different receiving loops according to the mass location, 8 cases with knee coil, 4 cases with elbow coil, 5 cases with abdominal coil and 4 cases with lumbar coil. The DWI figures, FA figures, ADC figures and RA figures were obtained automatically by Functool software. The region of interest (ROI) was placed on essence area, edge and normal surrounding tissue. The FA value, ADC values and RA value were measured respectively The manifestations of tumors on Ggeneral magnetic resonance, FA figure, ADC figure, RA figure and reconstruction muscle fiber bundle figure were compared with pathological examinations. The statistical analysis of all parameters were performed in 17.0 SPSS software. Results:All intramuscular tumors on MR-DWI figures clearly showed. Most signals of these lesions were higher than that of normal surrounding tissues.1. The application of DTI in benign tumors of skeletal muscle:1)The average FA value of tumor substance was 0.165±0.010, which was 0.256±0.119 in fringe area, 0.366±0.101 in normal surrounding tissues.2)The average ADC value of tumor substance was (2.405±0.733)×10-3 mm2/s, which was (1.654±0.399)×10-3mm2/s in fringe area, (1.953±0.732)×10-3mm2/s in normal surrounding tissues.3)The average RA value of tumor substance was 0.173±0.072, which was 0.238±0.085 in fringe area, 0.301±0.125 in normal surrounding tissues.2. The application of DTI in malignant skeletal muscle tumors:1)The average FA value of tumor substance was 0.267±0.136, which was 0.325±0.155 in fringe area, 0.379±0.090 in normal surrounding tissues.2)The average ADC value of tumor substance was (2.220±0.464)×10-3mm2/s, which was (1.834±0.496)×10-3mm2/s in fringe area, (1.877±0.696)*10-3 mm2.s-1.3)The average RA value of tumor substance was 0.269±0.201, which was 0.315±0.111 in fringe area, 0.312±0.135 in normal surrounding tissues.3. The FA value, ADC values and RA values of the essence area and fringe area between benign and malignant tumors showed statistically significant differences (p<0.05), while these values of surrounding tissues didn't. (p> 0.05).4. The influence of different receiving coils to the surrounding fibromuscular organization of tumors was not statistically different (p> 0.05).Conclusion:1. The application of DTI in the intramuscular tumors was feasible, which was helpful to the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors.2. The FA value, ADC values and RA value of essence and edge area of showed significantly different between benign and malignant tumors.3. The influence of different coils to FA value, ADC values and RA values didn't exist.3. The influence of different receiving coils to the surrounding fibromuscular organization of tumors was not statistically different.
