Objective:To investigate the relationship of the size of Corpus callosum with gender and age; To investigate the relationship of the degree of brain atrophy with the degree of corpus callosum atrophy in patients with brain atrophy.Methods:920 healthy controls with MR examination were grouped by gender and age,119 patient with Brain atrophy were grouped by the degree of brain atrophy.corpus collosum areas (CCa), intracranial areas (ICa), additionally CCa-ICa ratio (CIR) were measured on mid-sagittal section with SE-T1WI.Dates were processed by ANOVA, scatter plot and curve fitting between these index and age in normal person were completed.Results:①Mean corpus collosum area of normal males was larger than that of females (p<0.05), but there were no difference of CCa-ICa ratio for gender (P>0.05).②Significant difference of these index across different age groups was testified (P<0.05), it implied that CCa followed inverted quadratic term -curves across the human lifespan, the optimal equation for CCa(Y)-ages(X) was [Y=457.346+9.434X-0.113X2].③There was a statistically significant correlation between the degree of brain atrophy and the corpus collosum area in patients with brain atrophy (P<0.05).Conclusion:Significant difference of corpus collosum size in gender and age was clearly demonstrated in our study. predicts that the changes of corpus collosum size follows an inverted quadratic term -curve across the human lifespan, with peak ages between 41 and 45 years. The degree of corpus callosum atrophy represented the degree of brain atrophy in some degree in patients with brain atrophy.
