"Repaying a kindness", the traditional virtue of China, is an important principle of the interpersonal communication in ancient and modern times, a basic moral standard of Chinese, an important factor of maintaining social stability. The concepts and behaviors of repaying a kindness in the Pre-Qin period, which have established the basis of the whole repaying culture, deeply affect the theme of the later literary fiction and the connotation of festivals and holidays. Through the research on the concepts and behaviors of repaying a kindness in the pre-Qin, we can see the interpersonal communication and the principle of doing things. The concepts of repaying a kindness, which involve the filial piety culture, such as procreation adoration, ancestor worship, include the grateful relations between couples, monarchs and bureaucrats, fathers and sons, bosom friends, is an important reference of human relations. This article selects this specific period, the pre-Qin, considers the concepts and behaviors of repaying a kindness as its pointcut, paraphrases the repayments for gratitude, distinguishes the concepts of repaying from others, and classifies the types and ways of repaying, further inspects the causes and effects of it, and then carries forward Chinese traditional culture. This thesis consists of three parts in framework: introduction, the main parts( comprising four points ) and conclusion.Introduction: This part mainly expounds the research status, purpose, method and significance on my thesis.The First Point: The meaning of repaying a kindness. Based on the explanation of "repaying" "gratitude", it has been clear about the origin of repayment, and at the same time distinguished the relationships between "repaying" with "loyalty" ,"filial piety" ,"revenge" and "karma" ,makes readers acknowledge the related concepts and behaviors of repaying a kindness in the pre-Qin period.The Second Point: The ways of repaying. The four types, including gratitude for rising, recognition, a couple's grace and a help in trouble, mainly constitute the categories of gratitude in the pre-Qin society. Through the introduction about four kinds of grace, it shows the four ways of repaying their gratitude. They are to be filial and mourned, repaying in one's body, keep loyal in couples, and repaying timely.The Third Point: The analysis of repaying behaviors in the pre-Qin period. This chapter accounts for the reasons from two aspects of settled village agriculture and social organizations, respectively expounds the material base and social conditions.The Fourth Point: The discussion about effects of repaying a kindness in the pre-Qin period. This chapter is written into two directions, which are the theme of later literary fiction and the connotation of festivals and holidays, reveals the deep influence to Chinese for repaying a kindness in the pre-Qin period.Conclusion: To summarize all aspects of the thesis, put forward the existing problems of repaying and correct attitude to repay a kindness.
