Shanxi has a long history of coal mining, the development through the ages, to the Ming and Qing dynasties, the wider use of coal resources promoted the development of the coal industry and had a major impact to the local economy and society. However, as an important development of modern energy, the Coal Industry took on a slow trends in the social transition, to a certain extent, it affected the pace of modernization of China.This paper is intended to discuss the impact of the local economy and social customs through showing the development of an overview of Shanxi Coal Industry in the end of feudal society.moreover, it deeply posted the reasons for leading to slow development of the coal industry, and make a historic matting for the modern development of the coal industry.In the introduction, the writer describes the purpose and significance of writing this article, and gives a brief introduction and evaluation about the current status of this field.There are four parts in the thesis:The first part comprises the first four chapters, it will describe the distribution of coal resources in Shanxi, mining technology, rulers'disaster management policies, so that readers have a more comprehensive and detailed understanding for using and policy background of coal resources during the Ming and Qing dynasties.The second part is the fifth chapter, basing on the narrative of the first four chapters, this chapter will describe the progress and negative factors of the coal industry in the historical process during the Ming and Qing dynasties in Shanxi, and reveal the current situation of the coal industry in Shanxi Province in the eve of modernization.The third part is the sixth and seventh chapters,it will mainly analyze the impact on customs and culture, economy, ecological environment and social atmosphereIn the last part,firstly,it will objectively summarize the position of Shanxi Province in the whole country's coal industry.Furthermore,it will give an objective evaluation of the mining area of Shanxi, techniques, management measures, the impact of advances in social role.But it will point out when the feudal system of production is gradually broken, modern coal mining is born, coal mining process gradually transforms from hand into the machine or semi-production machine production, Shanxi coal industry must embark on the reformational road to achieve development.
