Development Of Ancient Cities In XunXian Under The Dominance Of Rivers

In this paper, the development of ancient cities in XunXian is the main line.There are two parts disscussed:foundation of cities' development laid by rivers; distribution of cities and urban construction led by rivers.Local beliefs,culture and changes in urban function are also reflected by the two parts above.As the foundation and specific performance of urban development,agricultural,traffic, distribution of cities and urban construction had a great change. Yellow River,Wei River and Qi River played an important role in the natural evolution and human activity.The change of urban function in XunXian gone through three stages:function of flood protection and military(from prehistoric times to Qin and Han dynasties),function of flood protection, military and trade,traffic(from Wei and Jin period to Tang and Song dynasties),function of trade and traffic(Yuan Ming and Qing period).Corresponding to this,development of rivers in this area experienced three stages:only Yellow River,both Yellow River and Wei River,only Wei River. The change from LiYangXian -LiYang Ferry to XunXian-Wei River and the overall layout of XunXian reflected the trajectory of urban development.Rivers played a leading role in the development of ancient cities in this area.In addition,Human activity on rivers and other natural conditions also largely affected the development of cities in this area.The development of ancient cities in XunXian not only based on rivers,but is also a exchange process between human and nature.In this process, beliefs, cultural and geographical character led by rivers made a critical role in the development of ancient cities in XunXian.Tody this role will remain as history support and cultural orientation,which will be with the the relationship between mankind and nature.The development of ancient cities in XunXian under the dominance of rivers will provide experience and inspiration not only to XunXian,but also to cities along rivers and even China cities.
