Along with the development and the further research of the lexical theory, more and more scholars began to pay attention to the role of the lexical chunk in second language acquisition. Through study they confirm that lexical chunks appear with great frequency in language communication, easy to overall memory and be quickly extracted when use, so they consider that lexical chunk can facilitate language learning. Since Nattinger&Decarrio proposed "lexical approach" which has been know as the new teaching philosophy guiding language teaching. After lexical approach be introduced by TCFL circle, it was common in writing and oral teaching. There are few scholars focused in the use of lexical chunk. And the empirical study on listening teaching has no precedent to follow before. Our research introduce lexical approach to listening teaching. Through experiments we try to prove that lexical approach been used in listening teaching can help students to enlarge short-term memory capacity, thus alleviating their anxiety when listening, improving their listening. In addition, combining some teaching methods be put forward in the study, we look forward to arouse more attention in order to form a complete teaching model of lexical chunk. This paper studies the role of lexical approach in listening teaching during elementary stage in TCFL. We choose two classes students from college of international education Shandong University as participants and conduct a teaching experiment for one semester. Lexical approach is used in experimental class, traditional approach the control class. At the beginning of the semester, we confirmed through pre-test that the listening level of two classes students has no obvious difference. At the middle and the end of the semester, we carried another two test and found the score of expeimental class is significantly beter than the control class after analysised by sociological statistical software SPSS17.0. The interview before experiment and the questionnaire after experiment also showed lexical approach used in listening teaching can improve students' listening comprehension level. Finally, we summarized the main findings and the teaching implications of this study. Meanwhile we also analyse some limitations of experiment, and put forward some some suggestions for future research.
