In the long period of Japanese immigration,immigrants into Hawaii is unavoidably an important subject.As its start and most successful example,Japanese immigration to Hawaii has unique features.This paper takes Japanese in Hawaii as research subject,across 61 years between 1885-1945, analyzes respectively the Japanese immigrants into Hawaii and their living conditions during the period of the Kingdom of Hawaii and Hawaii under American control,and probes into their integration with local community concretely.At the turn of old and new times Japan was facing excessive population growth,while at the same time Hawaii's in urgent need of cheap labors.So this brought a great opportunity for Japanese immigration into Hawaii.There were lots of Japanese immigrants into Hawaii so that the Japanese became the largest group during the early 20th century.Yet,the immigration process was also accompanied with many problems.Especially during The Kingdom of Hawaii annexation by the United States and the Pacific war,the Japanese immigration process and the life of Japanese in Hawaii were deeply affected by the relationship among Japan,Hawaii,and the United States.Although Japanese in Hawaii went through a variety of ethnic conflicts,conflicts between nations and culture clash,they gradually rooted in Hawaii and integrated into local community.
