Beiqian site locates in Jiaodong Peninsula. In this paper, charcoal recovered from this site has been scientifically identified. Combined with charcoal remains of other sites in Shandong Peninsula, My dissertation demonstrates the distribution of natural vegetation of pre-Qin in Jiaodong Peninsula, and the use of wood resources by human beings.The charcoal remains from Beiqian site including Pinus, Acer, Betula, Quercus, Toona, Cudrania, Ulmus, Celtis etc. Combined with other archaeological sites from Jiaodong Peninsula showed, warm temperate deciduous broadleaf forest had been distributed in Jiaodong Peninsula from Dawenkou culture to Zhou dynasty. The number and types of tropical tree species has decreased in Yueshi culture and after Zhou dynasty. Those changes may be affected by climate changes, or human activities.The firewood was always oak, and a great of wood was used for building. In addition, there may be other usages of wood resources.The plant remains of Beiqian site, including carbonized seeds, fruits, phytoliths, charcoals and other aspects. Studies about those are important for understanding of ancient society in the region. |
