Shell midden site is a kind of the ancient site types.It contains a lot of shells which people threw away.Shell midden sites are distributed in Liaodong Peninsula and Jiaodong Peninsula,which occupies an important position in Northeast Asian cultural exchange circle.Shell midden sites in Liaodong Peninsula extended from the new stone age to the bronze age.And the time rang of Shell midden sites in Jiaodong Peninsula mainly concentrated in the new stone age.One is Xiaozhushan culture.In Liaodong Peninsula, Xiaozhushan culture exists in Lvda area.The sequence of archaeological culture about shell midden sites in Jiaodong Peninsula contains the first stage of Baishicun,the first stage of Qiujiazhuang and the first stage of Zijingshan.To the age of Longshan culture,the shell midden site has gone.The shell midden sites in both Liaodong Peninsula and Jiaodong Peninsula distribute along the coastline are all thalassic type.Except for Qiujiazhuang site of Jiaodong Peninsula.While,Qiujiazhuang site belongs to estuarial type.In the mode of career,their economic mode are mainly fishing and hunting gathering.There were a large number of fishing tools,shells,the bones of fish and mammals.5000 years ago,the coastline began to move to the direction of the sea.At the same time,the shell midden sites in Jiaodong Peninsula were dying.The causes of extinction are in addition to the natural environment began to change.And Dawenkou culture has brought the farming culture.To 3000 years ago,the geomorphological structure has changed obviously.And the sea backed near the present coastline.So the seafood resource around,at that time,has reduced on a large scale and even disappeared.In this situation,people had to began to change the way of living.Meanwhile,the shell midden sites around were basically disappearing.
