This thesis attempts to explore the relationship between subjectivity and artists (and their artistic creation) by examining issues related to subjectivity in artistic practice. The author postulates that artists in modern society have progressively attained independent identities and their subjectivity(as the deep srtucture of individual artists) has become more important than ever. This article focuses on practice of contemporary art in China. As artists live in social contexts of"native - foreign"and"traditional - present", they particularly need to possess subjectivity in art practice. In other words, they need to start by considering various aspects of the subject before thinking and acting. The author also rethinks phenomena caused by the lack of subjectivity in Chinese contemporary art. Further, through case analysis of individual contemporary Chinese artists , the author expounds on the gaining dominance of subjectivity in artists'thoughts and actions. |
