Plantain is an important plant image and theme in classic Chinese literature. As early as Han Dynasty, ancient people began to explore plantain, however, due to its limited geographical distribution and late development of its practical value, plantain did not enter into people's aesthetic vision until the Eastern Jin Dynasty, when plantain became the object of literary expression. Tang Dynasty is a period during which plantain image writing develop rapidly and the absolute number and relative number of the works increase greatly, reaching a comparatively greater prosperous condition. At that time, literati usually tended to express their emotional experience by using such classic scenes as "yudabajiao"(雨打芭蕉), "jiaoyetishi"(蕉叶题诗),"weizhanbajiao"(未展芭蕉).The literary works on plantain image is in bloom during Song Dynasty, when many famous literary works emerge. By Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty, plantain became the important theme of the popular literature and the poetry with pictures. These classic literature perfectly revealed diverse aesthetic characteristics of plantain such as its natural quality and style through various aspects--- leaves, flowers and postures, at the same time, connoted complex and rich thoughts and emotions into it, thus, making plantain a syllabus of lamentation, elegance, and Zen emptiness. Especially, "Yudabajiao" can make people feel rich aesthetic characteristics of the beauty of music, season and geography, In the process of enjoying, the feeling of homesickness, lovesickness and leisure are motivated by the image. Plantain is not only the vital subject of the linguistic art, but also the theme of other artistic forms such as gardens and paintings. Various artistic forms permeate mutually, so colorful plantain culture has come into being.
