Banana's Classical Cultural Narrative

Content: The paper gives a deep classical and cultural analysis on plantainfrom aspects of botany, culture, history and literature; and it makes a detailed exposition of plantain on its botanical aesthetics, cultural symbolic meaning, and comparative cultural research and so on.In respect of botanical aesthetics, the paper introduces the origins and landscape beauty of plantain in order of time and space, and reveals the aesthetic and landscape values of plantain. In respect of cultural symbolic meaning, it makes a cultural, historical and philosophic analysis on the implications, spiritual meanings and origins of three important cultural images closely connected with Buddhism --Plantain in Snow, Plantain in Rain and Poems on Plantain Leaf, thus raising the cultural meaning of plantain from physical level to spiritual level; in this sense, this part can be treated as a historic exposition of Chinese traditional plantain culture. In respect of comparative cultural research, besides general introduction on characteristic plantain cultures of other countries, esp. of Japan, it mainly decodes Plantain Spirit, a cultural image in Chinese and Japanese culture, with a hope to show the long-term exchanges and evolution of Chinese and Japanese traditional culture.
