The literati scripts for story-telling as an independent creation started from the sorting of scripts for story-telling of Song and Yuan Dynasty. At the beginning, most authors worked on the basis of folk stories, therefore most stories in their scripts can be found its antitype. With the development of politics, economic and culture in Ming Dynasty, the literati scripts for story-telling grew up and saw its booming time. In the new social environment, the folk stories from the Song and Yuan Dynasty were used up quickly to meet the social demand. Temptated by the economic benefit and their own interests, many talented authors of middle or low social satus created stories on their own, and the literati scripts for story-telling entered its flourishing time. The literati scripts for story-telling presented clear features of literati stylization, and Second Script for Story-Telling About the West Lake is a representative one. This thesis explores these literati stylization features in four chapters.Chapter One analyzes the time and space backgrounds of Second Script for Story-Telling About the West Lake . Referring the time background,this book was produced on the flourishing time of the literati script for story-telling– Chongzhen Empire Period at the end of Ming Dynasty, based on the successful exploration of famous authors such as Menglong Feng and Mengchu Ling; Referring the space background, this book appeared in the area of Zhejiang and Jiangsu province where the scripts for story-telling flourished, so it rooted deeply in the good tradition of scripts for story-telling. Both time and space backgrounds were ready for this book.Chapter Two analyzes the characters of Second Script for Story-Telling About the West Lake. This chapter focuses on different characters reflecting the author Qingyuan Zhou's politics concept, hero concept, woman concept and religion concept. From these four kinds of characters, we can find out some clear characteristics different from previous authors, and we can also find out the author Qingyuan Zhou's thought which is rooted in Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism.Chapter Three explores the artistic means of this book from three aspects: irony art, plot art and art defects. The first two aspects reflect its artistic features, and the last one probes into the reasons why this book is castigated by most scholars.Chapter Four explores the objectives of the author. In the view of the society of Ming dynasty and the author himself, this chapter probes into the author'objectives of expressing his worry, indignation and eager of being an official. From it we can see that the author takes the whole society as his duty.The whole thesis is based on the careful reading and the combination of Chinese and foreign theories and tries to be reasonable, systematic and logical.
