This thesis attempts to make some research on Li Jihong's translation of Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner in the light of Eugene A. Nida's functional equivalence at various aspects. As The Kite Runner has been so influential in the literary field in recent years and his Chinese translation Zhui Feng Zheng De Ren rendered by Li Jihong is so popular to all the Chinese readers, it is really a good case to study how Nida's functional equivalence works in this translation, and prove the feasibility of the theory of functional equivalence in practical process of literary translation. Firstly, since Nida puts forward readers' response theory in the functional equivalence, the author of this thesis attempts to analyze how Li achieves functional equivalence especially in the respect of reader's response. Later, the author of the thesis studies Li Jihong's translation through Nida's "New Theory of Language and Translation" by analyzing whether the translation conveys the same amount of information as the source text does. Then, at cultural level, the author studies how Li Jihong processes cultural transplantation in his translation. Finally, the author cites some examples to show stylistic equivalence in Li Jihong's translation. The successful translation practice of his translation should be studied by other literary translation researchers, since functional equivalence indeed works well in this field.
