This article has selected two reading textbooks as the research object.The two books are compiled a decade apart but by the same author, between which there is a strong "race". The author carried out a deep study and systematic research on their topics,vocabulary, exercise design, and notes in order to find out their strongpoints and weakpoits from which we can learn something.The author hopes that this study can provide some sugestions for compiling reading materials for TCSL.This article is composed of three big parts:the introduction, body and conclusion, the body contains five chapters.Introduction introduces the significance of the topic of this article,the subjects and research methods.Chapter one is review of relevant research both at home and abroad. It's mainly on the teaching of reading, TCSL teaching materials and TCSL reading materials. This chapter has provided theoretical support fot the following chapter.The second chapter is about topics and structures of the two textbooks. The author analyzes the structure of two materials, the topic classification, language materials and the authenticity and appropriateness of the topic.Chapter three talks about vocabulary arrangement. The author compared the vocabulary difficulty, the reproducibility rate and their distribution in the texts.Chapter four focuses on their exercises designed. The author analyzes the two textbooks' question types, the function embodied, the intrinsic link in between, the course content covered.Chapter five compared the two materials form other aspects,such as the illustrations and content, the layout and lively novel, the vocabulary Chinese-English translation.Conclusion consist of three parts:the innovation and development and the inadequacies of this study. This article provides some useful methods and views for compiling TCSL reading materials in the future.
