The commercialization of drama is an important trend for the development of modern drama in our country. "Commercial drama" is a division of drama with respect to mainstream drama and experimental drama. It originally emerged in the 1990s, and developed into scale in the new century. Commercial drama provides basis for the commercialization of drama, and it is the audience-oriented art production emerging in order to adapt to the change of market economy system. Independent drama maker is the facilitator in early stage. After entering the new century, with the maturity of drama marketing skills and the improvement of performance market, the operating mode of commercial drama is taken up by theatre and other practitioners, drama production begins to face the market and the nature of drama as culture product is recognized and grown up. With the regulation of market, the course of drama commercialization is intensified obviously. The paper starts from the definition of concepts, investigates drama performances of recent decade in Beijing, analyses the reasons for drama commercialization, summarizes the performance of drama commercialization, combs the course of drama commercialization, sums up different experiences by different operators, puts forward advice about how to avoid the adverse impacts created by commercialization and finally hopes that the development of China's drama in new century can be recognized more impressively.
